MONique mc cemas

Project Coordinator

Monique is Yaqui and Lipan Apache. She was adopted in the Lakota Tail family who come from long lineage of Sun Dancers. Monique herself is a Sun Dancer and carries the sacred chanupa (ceremonial pipe) for the people. When she accepted the responsibility to be a chanupa carrier, she made a commitment to be of service to humanity. As the creator of Good Medicine, a women's group who help community members in need, she carries out her promise. "Our way is Free," Monique says.

Monique has been doing ceremony for most of her adult life; full moon tipi ceremonies and Inipi ceremonies. She also celebrates the ways of women by holding rites of passage for girls becoming women in their first moon.

Monique loves to care for our Mother Earth through gardening and creating sacred spaces.
