Laurie Pettigrew is the Founder and CEO of The Art Ranch non-profit organization based in California since 2002. Along with the Art Ranch’s highly specialized professionals, Laurie develops programs which reach children in the U.S. and abroad. These programs focus on fostering the growth of young people as creators, communicators, and healthy active participants in a rapidly changing world. In November 2016, Kimberly Marteau Emerson of Human Rights Watch, invited Laurie to Lesvos, Greece to aid in the refugee rescue program. Through this first-hand experience, Laurie became acutely aware of the crisis and the support needed to help the refugees assimilate. This sent her on a trajectory to create the Art Ranch - Art in Action Psychosocial Program that meets the children where they are in their transition, identifies emotional trauma, and offers an integrated art therapy approach to help to address these issues. Through this intervention, refugee children are supported in becoming healthy and productive citizens in their new communities. Before founding the Art Ranch, Laurie ran three successful design companies, L. Pettigrew, Throws of Passion, and her own clothing label “Laurie Pettigrew”, which she set aside in order to dedicate herself fulltime to The Art Ranch and continue her 25 year journey of mentoring children and families
